We believe that even one small thing can make a big impact. When considering the safety of our products, everything matters. We evaluate each component to ensure the health and safety of this generation, and generations to come.
Going beyond Declare registration and Health Product Declarations, Cradle to Cradle CertificationCM is the most comprehensive material health assessment. As a Cradle to Cradle Silver CertifiedCM product, our carpet has been assessed, and is continually being optimized to ensure it poses no known or suspected threat to humans or the environment.
Cradle to Cradle Material Health Assessment
Third party verified, risk assessed.
A material health assessment is a first step in the Cradle to Cradle CertificationCM process. This means all Shaw Contract Group Silver-certified products have been inventoried down to 100 parts per million. Each material is assessed, and those with the highest risk phased out to achieve certification.
This verified Material Health assessment also provides a pathway for our products to fully contribute to the LEED v4 Material Ingredients credit.
Material health is just one of the five categories of Cradle to Cradle CertificationCM. Certification not only addresses what’s in the product, but how it is designed, made, and reutilised.

Health Product Declaration (HPD)
The Health Product Declaration (HPD) enables manufacturers to present building product ingredients in a format that is consistent, transparent and in a common language consumers can understand.
Completed HPDs include an inventory of ingredients that are scanned against a number of authoritative hazards lists to identify Benchmark 1 chemicals (chemicals of high concern).

Free of Red List Chemicals, Living Building Challenge compliant.
Shaw Contract Group products constructed with EcoWorx Carpet Tile and Eco Solution Q face fibre are registered through the Declare program and classified as “Red List Compliant.”
Declare is an ingredients label for building products that supports the Living Building Challenge, a building certification program developed by the International Living Future Institute. Living Building Challenge requires that manufacturers disclose the ingredients in their products to ensure that they are free of Red List chemicals and materials.
The Red List represents the materials, chemicals, and elements known to pose serious risks to human health and the greater ecosystem. While any material can be listed in the Declare database, a Living Building Project cannot contain any of the following materials or compounds:
- Bisphenol A (BPA)
- Chlorinated Polyethylene and Chlorosulfonated Polyethlene
- Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs)
- Chloroprene (Neoprene)
- Chromium VI
- Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC)
- Formaldehyde (added)
- Halogenated Flame Retardants (HFRs)
- Lead (added)
- Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
- Perfluorinated Compounds (PFCs)
- Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
- Polyvinylidene Chloride (PVDC)
- Short Chain Chlorinated Paraffins
- Wood treatments containing Creosote, Arsenic or Pentachlorophenol
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in wet applied products
Shaw Contract Group products constructed of EcoWorx backing and Eco Solution Q are registered through the Declare program and classified as “Red List Compliant.” This means we have declared our ingredients, source and manufacturing locations.
Living Building Challenge project teams can use our Declare label for materials documentation, streamlining the process of project certification. While Declare ingredient disclosure is self-disclosed, our Cradle to Cradle material health assessment builds off Declare and provides third party validation of material safety.
